How to Install a Sliding Door

Today, let’s learn building and installing a sliding door.

Get Started: Build, Paint and Hang

Before the door is built, measure the doorway. The barn door works better if it overlaps the gap by at least 2″ in both directions. The layout was focused on a gateway with a 4′ x 8′ foot design.

Cut Wood Pieces

Cut the 1″x2″x8 boards to create the outer frame of the screen. Let us just say the door is 8 ‘wide, so let’s cut two 8’ pieces. Cut four 47 “pieces. Keep two 47” pieces aside to use later. Screw together two 8 ‘pieces and two 47’ parts to form a rectangle.

Frame It

Using the other two 47 “sections of wood to render horizontal braces in the inner frame. Once you mount them, they will split the door horizontally into three, about 32” apart. Add wood glue to two bits of wood all over the location and fasten with screws. In each segment, cut and install 31 “pieces of 1 x 2” boards to fit into 47 “horizontal pieces to provide further help for your door framework.

Plan for the Handle

Place a 1 “x 2” x 11 “piece of wood on each side of the frame at the height you’d want your door handle to be. Our handle is bigger, so we placed three pine parts next to each other to make sure the handle stays locked in better.

Attach Plywood and Insulate

Add the plywood sheet to the back of your screen. Apply wood glue on both the top surfaces on both the inner and outer doors. Place the plywood on top of the board, add the wood glue and, once placed, lock it with the screws.

Flip the door so that the freshly installed plywood hand faces down. Use a hand knife to cut the squares out of a half sheet of foam insulation to match the gaps between the ribs. Spray each square with a small amount of foam to protect the square within the container. Through this the noise that passes through your windows.

When the foam is full, attach the final piece of plywood to the frame. Apply the wood glue to the frame and put the luan plywood on top of the board. Protect the plywood with the screws of wood.

Paint It

Use the spackle to plug the gaps in the pin.  Use soft sand to ensure that the whole surface is smooth and paint-ready. Apply a white primer coat on both sides of the screen. Once the primer finally dries, put on the color of your coat.

Install Hardware

Take 6″ in from both end of the bottom of the door. Attach it to the rolling casters. Attach with drywall screws. At the top of the doorframe, apply 1 “ring bracket. Make sure you are placing it on both the sides of the door.  Place the door handle at a convenient height by screwing the inner brackets to the inside of the door.

Hang It

Installing the equipment is better accomplished with the aid of a buddy. Start by running a galvanized pipe through the two ring brackets at the top of the frame. Holding it within the braces, raise the pipe as high as necessary and weigh from the bottom of the casters to the center of the galvanized plug. This test should have the appropriate height at which the circular baseplates should be mounted to the ground.

When one end is threaded and fixed to the wall, the 90-degree elbow is threaded into the screw. Add the last base plate to the elbow and mount the second base plate to the wall in the right place.
